Papier Salé Workshop with Toinette Chaudron

Salt paper was the most widely used paper-based photographic process for producing positives (from paper negatives) from 1839 until the 1860s.
This is an essential moment in the history of photography.
This paper is based on silver nitrate, a metallic salt with very low light sensitivity. When silver nitrate is mixed with cooking salt, silver chloride is formed, which is much more sensitive to light.
When exposed to light, silver chloride transforms into silver to produce beautiful shades of brown.

Roundtable / "Imaginary World, Imagined World”

Roundtable / "Imaginary World, Imagined World”

- "Imaginary World, Imagined World” -
Roundtable on Fiction and Iconic Narration in the Age of AI
With Dan Zhu, Petermfriess, Roland Van der Hoeven, Olivier Guyaux

This roundtable will explore the intersections of fiction, iconic narration, and artificial intelligence. As AI technologies continue to advance, the boundaries between the imaginary and the imagined blur, offering new creative possibilities, but also challenging our current understanding of art, creativity and storytelling.

The recent possibilities of AI in video and photographic creation are revolutionary. AI now enables creators to generate hyper-realistic images, animations, and videos from simple textual descriptions, transforming the way narratives are visualised and stories are told or revisited. This technology not only automates parts of the creative process but also introduces a new dimension of creativity, where the collaboration between human imagination and neural networks helps to create unprecedented forms of art.

The Tiny Gallery in Brussels, dedicated to photography the late 19th to early 20th centuries, but also to contemporary creations, would like to stimulate a necessary discussion on the transformative impact of AI on the visual arts and setting the stage for a future where the boundaries of what can be imagined and created are continually expanded.

Les voisins du mois © Vincen Beeckman

On Saturday 10 February 2024, Linda and Diego (and his magnificent dog, Lilou), who have agreed to pose for Vincen's camera, will share with us what's close to their hearts. The link between these two local residents is the vegetable garden in the courtyard of the Centre Tour à Plomb, in which they are both involved, and the common denominator of the evening will be sharing and meeting new people. Linda will take us on a voyage of discovery as she invites us to concoct a traditional Thai soup with her, and Diego will offer us a musical moment of participation.

Our eyes, ears and taste buds will be delighted!
