Just before the turn of the century, Amazon listed three hundred books with the term in their titles; today, there are over two thousand. It is undeniable that the concept of happiness now plays a fundamental role in our understanding of ourselves and the world. It has become so familiar that it is considered taken for granted, so natural that it has lost all strangeness; there would even be some eccentricity, some true audacity in daring to question it."
