Born in 1973 in Tehran, Iran. Lives and works in Paris.
Her controversial series ‘Freud’, a collective of self-portraits, reflects her background and life, focusing on the duality of East and West. The collection ‘Voiles aux Vents’ or ‘Sexy window’ is a series of photos of her window curtains, shot naturally from the outside, that display some of the artist’s exploratory work with fabrics. Equally, critics have focused on its symbolism, although the artist believes it is subjective and open for interpretation.
‘Most of my art works are narrative. Only recently have things become more abstract. My themes are a part of the story of my life. But I am sure that my story and my feelings around my experiences can be recognised by many other Iranian women.’
Her latest work, ‘Mes Voyages’ or ‘My Journey’, is a superimposition of the ‘Freud’ series that focuses on her journey through Europe and the USA.
Since 2013, Banisadr's work has been presented by Galerie 55Bellechasse in Paris and around the world.
