EN C O R P U S | C O R P U S is an immersive journey into the intricate interplay between the human body as an object and a subject. The work of the artists showcased delves into the tangible and intangible aspects of the human form and elevates the body to a vessel for emotions, stories and identity within the realm of art. The exhibition presents seven powerful narratives rooted in the flesh, exploring themes of resilience, healing, empowerment, and identity.

FR C O R P U S | C O R P U S est un voyage immersif dans l’interaction entre le corps humain en tant qu’objet et sujet. La démarche des artistes présentés par l’exposition s’installe autour de la complexité du corps et de ses aspects tangibles et intangibles pour élever le corps au rang de réceptacle d’émotions, d’histoires et d’identité dans l’art. L’expo dévoile sept récits puissants ancrés dans la chair, explorant les thèmes de la résilience, de la guérison, de l’émancipation et de l’identité.

NL C O R P U S | C O R P U S is een meeslepende expeditie naar de interactie tussen het menselijk lichaam als object en als  subject. De aanpak van de kunstenaars die in de tentoonstelling worden voorgesteld, draait rond de complexiteit van het lichaam  en de tactiele en spirituele aspecten om het lichaam te verheffen tot  een tempel van onze identiteit , onze verhalen en onze emoties of met andere woorden tot  kunst.  De tentoonstelling bevat zeven krachtige verhalen die elk diep geworteld zijn in het lichaam en die thema's als zelfbevestiging, veerkracht en genezing gaan onderzoeken.

EN Derrick Ofosu Boateng is an artist on the rise. His photographs, taken and edited with an iPhone, offer a stylized look at vibrant Ghana. A perspective Boateng has developed through his love of his hometown, Accra. These surreal and sometimes dreamlike works have a simple aim : to communicate the everyday life of Africans in a luminous way through the lens of another African.

FR Derrick Ofosu Boateng est un artiste en pleine ascension. Ses photographies, prises et éditées avec un iPhone, proposent un regard stylisé sur le vibrant Ghana. Une perspective que Boateng a développée grâce à l’amour qu’il porte à sa ville natale, Accra. Ces œuvres surréalistes et parfois oniriques ont un objectif simple : communiquer la vie quotidienne des Africains de manière lumineuse à travers l’objectif d’un autre Africain.

EN Every month, two new images are inaugurated at the Centre Tour à Plomb. These photographs are taken in the neighborhood and highlight two residents of the month. More broadly, it can also involve families, friends, groups of people from the vicinity. Portraits that pose for a month and inhabit the spaces. During the inauguration, an action is jointly carried out by the two residents, showcasing their respective talents in various and sometimes unexpected domains. A project that brings neighbors together and fosters connections through the medium of photography.

FR Chaque mois deux nouvelles images sont inaugurées au Centre Tour à Plomb. Des photographies prises dans le quartier et qui mettent à l’honneur deux habitants du mois. Plus largement il peut s’agir aussi de familles, d’amis, de groupes de personnes du voisinage. Des portraits qui se posent pour un mois et qui habitent les lieux. Lors de l’inauguration, une action est menée conjointement entre les deux habitants qui présentent leurs talents respectifs dans des domaines multiples et variés voire insoupçonnés. Un projet qui amène les voisins à se rencontrer et se connaître via le médium de la photographie.

NL Elke maand worden er twee nieuwe afbeeldingen onthuld in het Centre Tour à Plomb. Foto’s genomen in de buurt die twee bewoners van de maand in de schijnwerpers zetten. Het kan breder gaan, ook over families, vrienden, groepen mensen uit de buurt. Portretten die voor een maand worden tentoongesteld en de ruimte bewonen. Tijdens de opening voeren de twee bewoners gezamenlijk een actie uit waarin ze hun respectievelijke talenten in diverse en soms onverwachte domeinen presenteren. Een project dat buren samenbrengt en laat kennismaken via het medium van fotografie.

EN The Photo Blabla Café exhibition, organized by the Tiny Gallery and part of the Photo Brussels Festival, is a unique gathering for street photography enthusiasts. It features the work of 14 amateur photographers from various countries, all connected to Saint Gilles, Brussels. The photographs, carefully selected during friendly meetings where each artist had the opportunity to present their creations, will be showcased at the Boulodrome de Saint Gilles from January 30 to February 27. This exhibition will offer visitors an immersion into the diverse facets of urban life, embodying the spirit of community and a shared passion for capturing the simplicity and spontaneity of everyday moments. 

FR L'exposition Photo Blabla Café, organisée par la Tiny Gallery dans le cadre du Photo Brussels Festival, est un rendez-vous unique pour les passionnés de photographie de rue. Il présente le travail de 14 photographes amateurs de différents pays, tous liés à Saint Gilles, Bruxelles. Les photographies, soigneusement sélectionnées lors de rencontres amicales où chaque artiste a eu l'occasion de présenter ses créations, seront exposées au Boulodrome de Saint Gilles du 30 janvier au 27 février. Het toont het werk van 1/4 amateurfotografen uit verschillende landen, allemaal verbonden aan Sint-Gillis, Brussel. De foto's, zorgvuldig geselecteerd tijdens vriendschappelijke bijeenkomsten waar elke kunstenaar de kans kreeg om zijn creaties te presenteren, zullen van 30 januari tot 27 februari worden tentoongesteld in het Boulodrome de Saint Gilles. Deze tentoonstelling biedt bezoekers een onderdompeling in de diverse facetten van het stadsleven, het belichaamt de geest van gemeenschap en een gedeelde passie voor het vastleggen van de eenvoud en spontaniteit van alledaagse momenten.

Four wall wander

EN The photographers present work that is part of a participatory project. In this project, the artists engaged in dialogue with residents and visitors of the ‘Two beers and no puppy’ exhibition at De Markten (2022). Anyone identifying as a woman and living in Brussels could sign up to have a portrait taken by one of the photographers. The selection depicts the characters in their own living environment.

FR Les photographes présentent des œuvres faisant partie d’un projet participatif. Dans le cadre de ce projet, les artistes ont dialogué avec les habitants et les visiteurs de l’exposition ‘Two beers and no puppy’ à De Markten (2022). Toute personne s’identifiant comme femme et résidant à Bruxelles pouvait s’inscrire pour faire réaliser un portrait par l’un des photographes. La sélection représente les personnages dans leur propre environnement de vie.

NL De fotografen laten werk zien dat deel uitmaakt van een participatief project. Daarbij gingen de kunstenaars in dialoog met buurtbewoners en bezoekers van de expo ‘Two beers and no puppy’ in De Markten (2022). Iedereen die zich identificeert als vrouw en in Brussel woont, kon zich inschrijven om een portret te laten maken door één van de fotografen. De selectie toont de personages in hun eigen leefomgeving.

EN Visual Gallery and FusionImages present 'Tout est peaux cibles': a photographic exploration of the poetry of skin sublimated by artificial or natural light. It highlights the shapes, textures, purity, and traces of time through the work of four Belgian photographers. An epidermal journey like a history book, a geography atlas, a coloring book, or a sketchbook, the screen between our souls and society. The exhibited photographers have captured the graphic complexities, naked or covered messages, in fluid movements or frozen statuary.

FR Visual Gallery et FusionImages présentent « Tout est peaux cibles » : une exploration photographique sur la poésie de la peau sublimée par l’éclairage ou la lumière naturelle. Une mise en valeur des formes, des grains, de la pureté ou des traces du temps par quatre photographes belges. Un parcours épidermique comme un  livre d’histoire, de géographie, un carnet à colorier ou à dessiner,  l’écran entre nos âmes et la société. Les photographes exposés ont capté les complexités graphiques, les messages nus ou couverts, dans des mouvements souples ou des figé statuaires.

EN The ultimate form of confinement is not so much the walls that bound us, but the darkness that shrouds the mind, the fog that weaves between thoughts, disturbing the clarity of being. These sensations felt during confinement became for me the genesis of a poignant photographic ritual. Every day, in our small enclosed courtyard, at the same time, the time when the light sets faces aflame, I set up my view camera. This act of taking pictures became a sacred moment, offering us an escape, a fleeting sense of freedom.

FR La forme ultime d’enfermement, ce ne sont pas tant les murs qui nous enferment, mais l’obscurité qui enveloppe l’esprit, le brouillard qui se tisse entre les pensées, perturbant la clarté de l’être. Ces sensations ressenties pendant le confinement sont devenues pour moi la genèse d'un rituel photographique poignant. Chaque jour, dans notre petite cour fermée, à la même heure, au moment où la lumière enflamme les visages, j'installe ma caméra de visée. Cet acte de prendre des photos est devenu un moment sacré, nous offrant une évasion, un sentiment éphémère de liberté.

NL De ultieme vorm van opsluiting zijn niet zozeer de muren die ons binden, maar de duisternis die de geest omhult, de mist die tussen gedachten weeft en de helderheid van het bestaan ​​verstoort. Deze sensaties die ik tijdens de opsluiting voelde, werden voor mij het ontstaan ​​van een aangrijpend fotografisch ritueel. Elke dag, op onze kleine, afgesloten binnenplaats, op hetzelfde tijdstip, het tijdstip waarop het licht de gezichten in vuur en vlam zet, zette ik mijn kijkcamera op. The Body is a Medium and a work

EN As a female photographer, there is a strong reflection on feminism in the photographs created by Sick Girl. The images are of free bodies, bodies tormented by some kind of invisible emotion. Some closeups of female body parts are juxtaposed with a series of objects that are poignant and cold. These photographs are in the camera. Women are both the perpetrators of violence, as well as the sufferers and the injured. Beauty is destroyed for the human eye in the form of self-mutilation, provoking the visual pain of the viewer.

FR En tant que femme photographe, il y a une forte réflexion sur le féminisme dans les photographies créées par Sick Girl. Les images représentent des corps libres, des corps tourmentés par une sorte d’émotion invisible. Certaines vues rapprochées de parties du corps féminin sont juxtaposées à une  série d’objets poignants et froids. Ces photographies sont un acte de résistance. Les femmes sont à la fois les auteurs de la violence et les victimes. La beauté est détruite aux yeux de l’observateur sous forme d’automutilation, provoquant une douleur visuelle.

NL Als vrouwelijke fotograaf is er een sterke reflectie op feminisme in de foto's die zijn gemaakt door Sick Girl. De beelden tonen vrije lichamen, lichamen geteisterd door een soort onzichtbare emotie. Enkele close-ups van vrouwelijke lichaamsdelen worden naast een reeks voorwerpen geplaatst die indringend en koud zijn. Deze foto's bevinden zich in de camera. Vrouwen zijn zowel daders van geweld als slachtoffers en gekwetsten. Schoonheid wordt vernietigd voor het menselijk oog in de vorm van zelfmutilatie, wat de visuele pijn van de toeschouwer oproept.

The Art of Form

Collective exhibition: Marta Margret Runarsdottir & Jonas Haraldsson

EN The exhibition is a collective, displaying the works of two Icelandic contemporary photographers, Marta Margrét Rúnarsdóttir and Jónas Haraldsson. The photographers mindfully explore abstract details of nature and urbanscapes, using perspective, shapes and light to transform the world we see into unexpected, at times unrecognisable images. The photographs isolate fragments of a natural and urban scene in order to remove its inherent context from the viewer - drawing away from that which is realistic or literal; from natural   appearances and recognizable subjects in the actual world. By departing from true meaning, existence, and reality itself, it allows the viewer to let his mind and imagination wander.

FR L’exposition est un collectif qui présente les œuvres de deux photographes islandais contemporains, Marta Margrét Rúnarsdóttir et Jónas Haraldsson. Les photographes explorent attentivement les détails abstraits de la nature et des paysages urbains, en utilisant la perspective, les formes et la lumière pour transformer le monde que nous voyons en images inattendues, parfois méconnaissables. Les photographies isolent des fragments d’une scène naturelle ou urbaine afin d’en retirer le contexte inhérent au spectateur - en s’éloignant de ce qui est réaliste ou littéral, des apparences naturelles et des sujets reconnaissables dans le monde réel. En s’éloignant du sens véritable, de l’existence et de la réalité elle-même, elles permettent au spectateur de laisser son esprit et son imagination vagabonder.

NL De tentoonstelling is een collectief dat werken toont van twee hedendaagse IJslandse fotografen, Marta Margrét Rúnarsdóttir en Jónas Haraldsson. De fotografen verkennen zorgvuldig de abstracte details van de natuur en stedelijke landschappen, waarbij ze perspectief, vormen en licht gebruiken om de wereld die we zien te transformeren in onverwachte, soms onherkenbare beelden. De foto's isoleren fragmenten van een natuurlijke of stedelijke scène om de inherente context voor de kijker te verwijderen, zich verwijderend van wat realistisch of letterlijk is, van natuurlijke verschijningen en herkenbare onderwerpen in de echte wereld. Door weg te stappen van de ware betekenis, het bestaan en de realiteit zelf, laten ze de kijker zijn geest en verbeelding de vrije loop.

EN During the 8th edition of PhotoBrussels Festival V/MSP GALLERY is presenting work of Edgar Leciejewski (GER) and Lieven Lefere (BE). In both artists' oeuvres, essential aspects of photography such as time, light and composition play an important role without, however, pursuing the goal of capturing an objectively visible reality. Rather, the two artists approach their subject in often lengthy procedures and deconstruct and reconstruct it on a meta-level. In their processes, historical references to photography are just as important as more general art-historical or scientific-analytical observation.

FR Pendant la 8e édition du PhotoBrussels Festival, V/MSP GALLERY présente les œuvres d'Edgar Leciejewski (GER) et de Lieven Lefere (BE). Dans les œuvres des deux artistes, les aspects essentiels de la photographie tels que le temps, la lumière et la composition jouent un rôle important sans pour autant chercher à capturer une réalité objectivement visible. Au contraire, les deux artistes abordent leur sujet par des procédures souvent longues et le déconstruisent et le reconstruisent à un niveau méta. Dans leurs processus, les références historiques à la photographie sont tout aussi importantes que les observations plus générales de l'histoire de l'art ou de l'analyse scientifique.

NL Tijdens de 8ste editie van Photo Brussels Festival presenteert V/MSP GALLERY werk van Edgar Leciejewski (GER) en Lieven Lefere (BE). In het oeuvre van beide kunstenaars spelen essentiële aspecten van fotografie zoals tijd, licht en compositie een belangrijke rol, zonder echter het doel te beogen om een objectief zichtbare werkelijkheid vast te leggen. De twee kunstenaars benaderen hun onderwerp in vaak langdurige procedures en deconstrueren en reconstrueren het op een metaniveau. In hun processen zijn historische verwijzingen naar fotografie net zo belangrijk als meer algemene kunsthistorische of wetenschappelijk-analytische observaties.

EN The gallery K41 hosts an exhibition that features women artists portraying women. Men have historically explained women and their lives, and male-centered lens (“the male gaze”) continues dominating society’s views on women. The male-centeredness is still noticeable, for instance, in scrutinized interest in women’s physical appearance, unrealistic expectations of caregiving performance, especially in the roles of mother and spouse, and societies’ measures to control women’s sexuality. In contrast to these stereotypes, the exhibition at the K41 gallery draws attention to women’s experiences.

FR La galerie K41 accueille une exposition mettant en avant des artistes femmes représentant des femmes. Historiquement, ce sont les hommes qui ont expliqué les femmes et leur vie, et le point de vue centré sur les hommes (le «regard masculin») continue de dominer les perceptions de la société sur les femmes. Cette vision centrée sur les hommes est toujours visible, par exemple, dans l’intérêt scruté porté à l’apparence physique des femmes, les attentes irréalistes en matière de rôle de soignante, en particulier dans les rôles de mère et d’épouse, ainsi que dans les mesures de contrôle de la sexualité des femmes par la société. Contrairement à ces stéréotypes, l’exposition à la galerie K41 met en lumière les expériences des femmes.

De door mannen gedomineerde visie is nog steeds merkbaar, bijvoorbeeld in de nauwlettende interesse in het fysieke uiterlijk van vrouwen, onrealistische verwachtingen van de zorgprestaties, vooral in de rollen van moeder en echtgenote, en maatregelen van de samenleving om de seksualiteit van vrouwen te controleren. In tegenstelling tot deze stereotypen vestigt de tentoonstelling in de K41-galerij de aandacht op de ervaringen van vrouwen.

EN "Happiness has deeply permeated our cultural imagination, to the point of occupying a central place in our lives. Type 'happiness' into a search engine, and you'll get hundreds of thousands of results. Just before the turn of the century, Amazon listed three hundred books with the term in their titles; today, there are over two thousand. It is undeniable that the concept of happiness now plays a fundamental role in our understanding of ourselves and the world. It has become so familiar that it is considered taken for granted, so natural that it has lost all strangeness; there would even be some eccentricity, some true audacity in daring to question it."

Aangezien de ramen van mijn appartement in Teheran bedekt waren met aluminiumfolie, konden we onze creativiteit de vrije loop laten. De vrouwen gooiden hun felgekleurde hoofddoek in de lucht, en terwijl het onvermijdelijk naar hen terugkwam, legde ik hun daad van uitdaging vast."

EN Since the 1980s, digital technologies have pushed photography towards dematerialisation. Countering this relentless advance, artists have simultaneously committed themselves to fully affirming its physicality. Through eight unique and experimental photographic practices, the exhibition invites us to read these alternative voices as genuine forms of resistance to a world dominated by the digital. Contrary to a certain conception of progress, their practices call into question the perfection of renderings, the regime of the instantaneous, and the need to continue producing images in a world that is saturated with them. Their research focuses on long processes, often using primitive and forgotten techniques. They celebrate the pictorial dimension, even cultivating mistakes and accidents. Some do not hesitate to roll up their sleeves and transform themselves into veritable alchemists in the gloom of their darkrooms. In so doing, these artists are constantly reinventing the way photography exists.

FR Depuis les années 1980, les technologies digitales ont précipité la photographie sur la voie de sa dématérialisation. Prenant le contre-pied de cette inexorable progression, des artistes se sont engagé·es en parallèle dans la pleine affirmation de sa physicalité. À travers huit pratiques singulières et expérimentales de la photographie, l’exposition propose de lire ces voix alternatives comme de véritables formes de résistance face à un monde dominé par le numérique. À rebours donc d’une certaine conception du progrès, leurs pratiques interrogent tout à la fois le perfectionnement des rendus, le régime de l’instantané, et la nécessité de produire encore des images dans un monde qui en est saturé. Leurs recherches privilégient ainsi les processus longs, convoquant souvent des techniques primitives et oubliées. Elles en célèbrent la dimension picturale, dont elles cultivent même les erreurs et les accidents. Certain·es n’hésitent pas à se retrousser les manches pour se métamorphoser en véritables alchimistes dans l’obscurité de leur chambre noire. Ce faisant, ces artistes réinventent sans cesse de nouveaux modes d’existence de la photographie.

NL Sinds de jaren 1980 hebben digitale technologieën de fotografie op weg gezet richting dematerialisatie. In het licht van deze onmiskenbare vooruitgang hebben kunstenaars zich tegelijkertijd ook ingezet voor de volledige bevestiging van de lichamelijkheid van fotografie. Aan de hand van acht bijzondere en experimentele praktijken nodigt de tentoonstelling ons uit om deze alternatieve stemmen te lezen als echte vormen van verzet tegen een wereld die wordt beheerst door het digitale.In tegenstelling tot een bepaalde opvatting van vooruitgang stellen hun praktijken de perfectie van de weergave, het regime van de momentopname, en de noodzaak om beelden te blijven produceren in een wereld die ermee verzadigd is, in vraag. Hun onderzoek richt zich op lange processen, waarbij ze vaak primitieve en vergeten technieken gebruiken. Ze vieren de picturale dimensie en cultiveren zelfs fouten en ongelukken. Sommigen aarzelen niet om hun mouwen op te stropen en transformeren zichzelf in ware alchemisten in de duisternis van hun donkere kamer. Op deze manier vinden deze kunstenaars de bestaanswijzen van fotografie voortdurend opnieuw uit.

Portraits

Jean Claude Wouters

EN Jean Claude Wouters (1958, in Brussels) was born an artist. Endowed with all talents, from drawing to painting, dance to cinema, Jean Claude also engages in photography. The exhibition "Portraits" presents two types of photographic exploration. On one hand, two series of unpublished self-portraits, created almost 30 years apart, will be revealed; on the other hand, we will bring together various large-format baryta prints, all unique pieces, each revealing, like a miracle, the character of a human or an object.

FR Jean Claude Wouters (1958, à Bruxelles) est né artiste. Doté de tous les talents, du dessin à la peinture en passant par la danse et le cinema, Jean Claude s’adonne également à la photographie. L’exposition “Portraits” présente deux types d’exploration photographique. D’une part, sera dévoilée deux series d’autoportraits inédits, réalisés à près de 30 années d’écart; d’autre part, nous réunirons différents tirages barytés de grand format, tous pièces uniques, qui révèlent chacun, tel un miracle, le caractère d’un humain comme d’un objet.

NL Jean Claude Wouters (1958, in Brussel) is geboren als kunstenaar. Begiftigd met alle talenten, van tekenen tot schilderen, dans tot cinema, wijdt Jean Claude zich ook aan fotografie. De tentoonstelling "Portretten" presenteert twee soorten fotografische verkenningen. Enerzijds worden twee series ongepubliceerde zelfportretten onthuld, gemaakt met bijna 30 jaar verschil; anderzijds brengen we verschillende grootformaat barietafdrukken samen, allemaal unieke stukken, die elk, als een wonder, het karakter van een mens of een object onthullen.

Generations of Resilience

EN The exhibition shows the challenges, faced by several generations of Ukrainian photographers. Cyclical processes, historical events and unity erase the borderline between these generations. The collection of photos from the 1970s to present emphasises the spiral nature of the struggle for Ukraine’s independence and democratic development. The history of Ukraine is a struggle for the future, which continues through generations. Here photography and art become one of the main methods to record and archive changes and one of the ways to fight in the war and resist colonial policy.

FR L’exposition Generations of resilience met en lumière les défis auxquels ont été confrontées plusieurs générations de photographes ukrainiens. Les processus cycliques, les événements historiques et l’unité effacent la frontière entre ces générations. La présentation d’un ensemble de photographies des années 1970 à aujourd’hui met l’accent sur la nature spirale de la lutte pour l’indépendance de l’Ukraine et de son développement démocratique. L’histoire de l’Ukraine est une lutte pour l’avenir, qui se poursuit à travers les générations. Ici, la photographie et l’art deviennent l’un des principaux moyens d’enregistrer et d’archiver les changements, ainsi qu’un moyen de lutter en temps de guerre et de résister à l’impérialisme.

NL De tentoonstelling toont de uitdagingen waarmee verschillende generaties Oekraïense fotografen worden geconfronteerd. Cyclische processen, historische gebeurtenissen en eenheid wissen de grens tussen deze generaties uit. De verzameling foto's van de jaren 1970 tot heden benadrukt de spiraalvormige aard van de strijd voor de onafhankelijkheid en democratische ontwikkeling van Oekraïne. De geschiedenis van Oekraïne is een strijd voor de toekomst, die voortduurt door de generaties heen. Hier worden fotografie en kunst een van de belangrijkste methoden om veranderingen vast te leggen en te archiveren, evenals een manier om te vechten in de oorlog en weerstand te bieden aan koloniale politiek.

EN As part of Photo Brussels Festival, La Maison Commune de l’Asbl Cultures & Publics aims to present a photographic co-creation in the form of an exquisite corpse. The exhibition will not showcase individual artists’ work but will be the outcome of an experimental co-creation effort. Each photographer will respond to another photographer through a photographic act. The exhibition will focus on this concept of co-creation, a concept that is also being explored in the context of a photo magazine with the same name, currently in progress.

FR Dans le cadre du Photo Brussels Festival, la Maison Commune de l’Asbl Cultures & Publics souhaite présenter une cocréation photographique sous la forme d’un cadavre exquis. L’exposition ne présentera pas le travail individuel d’artistes mais sera le résultat d’un travail expérimental de cocréation. Chaque photographe répondra à un.e autre photographe par un acte photographique. L’exposition eposera sur ce concept de cocréation, concept également investi dans le cadre d’une revue photo du même nom, en cours de réalisation.

EN For the 2024 edition of the PhotoBrussels Festival, Baxton Gallery has the honor of hosting three prominent photographers. Dolorès Marat, who creates a personal body of work filled with enigmas and strange atmospheres, seductive and sensual figures, and scenarios with no way out. Julien Magre, for whom photography thrives through books, an object that one can hold in their hands and manipulate to make it their own. Le Logis-Floréal, une cité en-visagée

EN The garden cities of Logis-Floréal: people are born there, they arrive, they live there, they grow old there, and sometimes they pass away. A multitude of individuals, experiences, and stories coexist and intersect, and their portraits, the visible and emotional aspect, unveil our shared humanity. This project involved around a hundred people, from 0 to 100 years old, with the aim of creating their portraits with an artistic approach and, through this collection, showcasing the diversity of the residents of the garden cities. The shootings took place over three months in vacant houses of Logis – Floréal, also highlighting the architectural features of the garden city heritage and revealing traces of the previous inhabitants' presence in these houses.

FR Les cités-jardins du Logis-Floréal, on y naît, on y arrive, on y vit, on y vieillit, on y meurt parfois. Autant d’individualités, de vécus et d’histoires qui cohabitent et qui se croisent, et dont le portrait, face visible et sensible, révèle notre commune humanité. Ce projet a mobilisé une centaine de personnes, entre 0 et 100 ans, le but était de réaliser leur portrait avec une approche artistique et de montrer par cet ensemble toute la diversité des habitantes et des habitants des cités-jardins.  Les prises de vue ont eu lieu pendant trois mois dans des maisons vides du Logis – Floréal, mettant également en valeur les caractéristiques architecturales du patrimoine de la cité-jardin, et laissant apparaître les traces du passage des habitants précédents dans ces maisons

NL De tuinsteden van Logis-Floréal, hier wordt geboren, hier komt men aan, hier leeft men, hier wordt men oud, soms sterft men hier. Zoveel individualiteiten, ervaringen en verhalen die naast elkaar bestaan en elkaar kruisen, en waarvan het portret, het zichtbare en voelbare gezicht, onze gemeenschappelijke menselijkheid onthult. Dit project heeft ongeveer honderd mensen tussen 0 en 100 jaar gemobiliseerd, met als doel hun portret te creëren met een artistieke benadering en door dit geheel de diversiteit van de bewoners van de tuinsteden te tonen. De opnames vonden gedurende drie maanden plaats in lege huizen van Logis – Floréal, waarbij ook de architecturale kenmerken van het erfgoed van de tuinstad werden benadrukt en sporen van de vorige bewoners in deze huizen zichtbaar werden.

collective exhibition: Me is Niza, Ilan Weiss & Paola Salerno

EN The exhibition C.L.I.C.H.É.S. presents three distinct approaches from three artists, Me is Niza, Ilan Weiss, and Nicolas K Feldmeyer, each in their own way, intertwining the presence or experience of their bodies with photographic imagery. Through them, this exhibition provides an opportunity to question our societies' inclination to use images like acronyms. An image becomes acronymic when it is regarded as a synthesis of the reality it represents, implicitly claiming to master its entire complexity. The acronymic image thus excludes the viewer's body, the maker's body, striving to eliminate the inseparable: the gaze and the body are one and the same. Regardless of the image, if we wish to avoid the acronym, we must give it time, creating a kind of second development of the photograph we are observing. "Clic," derived from the word "C.L.I.C.H.É.S." is the sound emitted when our bodies activate the photographic apparatus, an onomatopoeia that reminds us that our entire body contributes to the construction of the image. Me is Niza, Ilan Weiss and Nicolas K. Feldmeyer have very different photographic practices, but they all share the commonality of invoking the sensory, mnemonic, and active experience of their bodies to create the retinal space of their photographs.

FR L’exposition C.L.I.C.H.É.S. propose trois démarches singulières de trois artistes, Me is Niza, Ilan Weiss et Nicolas K Feldmeyer, qui, chacun à leur manière, associent la présence ou l’expérience de leur corps à l'image photographique. À travers eux, cette exposition nous offre l'opportunité d'interroger la propension de nos sociétés à utiliser l'image comme on utilise des acronymes. Une image devient acronymique lorsqu'elle est considérée comme une synthèse du réel qu'elle représente, revendiquant tacitement maîtriser toute sa complexité. L'image acronymique exclut ainsi le corps de celui qui regarde, de celui qui fait, tend à vouloir supprimer l'indissociable : le regard et le corps ne sont qu'une seule et même personne. Quelque soit l’image, si nous souhaitons éviter l’acronyme, nous devons lui donner du temps, créer comme un second développement de la photographie que nous observons. "Clic," extrait du mot "C.L.I.C.H.É.S." est le son émis lorsque notre corps actionne l'appareil photogra- phique, une onomatopée qui rappelle que notre corps tout entier participe à la construction de l'image. Me is Niza, Ilan Weiss et Nicolas K. Feldmeyer ont des pratiques de la photographie très diffé- rentes, mais ils et elle ont en commun le fait qu'ils convoquent l'expérience sensible, mémorielle et active de leur corps pour créer l'espace rétinien de leurs photographies.

NL De tentoonstelling "C.L.I.C.H.É.S." presenteert drie unieke benaderingen van drie kunstenaars, Me is Niza, Ilan Weiss en Nicolas K Feldmeyer, die elk op hun eigen manier de aanwezigheid of ervaring van hun lichaam met het fotografische beeld verbinden. Via hen biedt deze tentoonstelling ons de gelegenheid om de neiging van onze samenlevingen te bevragen om het beeld te gebruiken zoals men acroniemen gebruikt. Een beeld wordt acroniem wanneer het wordt beschouwd als een synthese van de realiteit die het vertegenwoordigt, waarbij het stilzwijgend beweert de volledige complexiteit ervan te beheersen. Het acroniembeeld sluit zo het lichaam uit van degene die kijkt, degene die maakt, en streeft ernaar het onscheidbare te willen verwijderen: het kijken en het lichaam zijn één en dezelfde persoon. Wat het beeld ook is, als we acroniemen willen vermijden, moeten we het tijd geven, het als een tweede ontwikkeling van de fotografie die we observeren creëren. "Clic," afgeleid van het woord "C.L.I.C.H.É.S." is het geluid dat ons lichaam maakt wanneer we de fotocamera bedienen, een klanknabootsing die eraan herinnert dat ons hele lichaam betrokken is bij de constructie van het beeld. Me is Niza, Ilan Weiss en Nicolas K. Feldmeyer hebben zeer uiteenlopende fotografiepraktijken, maar ze delen allemaal de zintuiglijke, herinnerende en actieve ervaring van hun lichaam om het retinale ruimte van hun foto's te creëren.

Het lichaam is ook geboorte en dood; het is de motor van alle dynamiek. De esthetisering van lichamen brengt een nieuw verhaal en een gewijzigde relatie tot de realiteit met zich mee, gedurende de tijd van een onderdompeling in een privéruimte, die het lichaam van de ander is.

Ghosts

EN With the Ghosts series, Jonathan Rosić recycles original snapshots taken from the clutter of "amateur photography", the abandoned intimacy of anonymous people. These strangers evade each other in gestures that move aside, but participatory gestures suggesting the mute interaction between photographer and photographed. Roland Barthes evokes this refusal: "photography (...) represents that very subtle moment when (...) I am neither a subject nor an object, but rather a subject who feels himself becoming an object: I then live the micro-experience of death (...), I really become a spectre". The modesty - whether artificial or not - of these ghosts makes photography an abyss: showing the eclipse of ghosts.

FR Avec la série Ghosts, Jonathan Rosić recycle des clichés originaux prélevés dans le désordre de la « photographie amateur », intimité abandonnée d’anonymes. Ces inconnus se dérobent dans des gestes qui s’écartent, mais gestes participatifs suggérant l’interaction muette entre le photographe et le photographié. Roland Barthes évoque ce refus : « la photographie (…) représente ce moment très subtil où (…) je ne suis ni un sujet, ni un objet, mais plutôt un sujet qui se sent devenir objet : je vis alors la micro-expérience de la mort (…), je deviens vraiment un spectre. ». La pudeur - artificielle ou non - de ces revenants met en abîme la photographie : donner à voir l’éclipse de fantômes.

NL Met de serie Ghosts recycleert Jonathan Rosić originele clichés die lukraak zijn onttrokken uit de wereld van de "amateurfotografie", de verlaten intimiteit van anonieme personen. Deze onbekenden ontwijken in gebaren die afwijken, maar participerende gebaren suggereren de stille interactie tussen de fotograaf en de gefotografeerde. Roland Barthes spreekt over deze weigering: "de fotografie (…) vertegenwoordigt dat zeer subtiele moment waarop (…) ik niet een onderwerp ben, niet een object, maar eerder een onderwerp dat voelt dat het een object wordt: dan beleef ik de micro-ervaring van de dood (…), ik word werkelijk een spook.". De ingetogenheid - kunstmatig of niet - van deze geesten plaatst de fotografie in een spiegel: het laten zien van de eclips van spoken.

EN Galila’s POC is a private art collection located in the Forest commune of Brussels, a stone’s throw from Wiels Contemporary Art Center and Fondation A. Stiching. The often surprising collection unfolds like a contemporary” cabinet de curiosities” with its 600 artworks assembled in an organic and intuitive layout. The current and evolutive exhibition -Overdose- samples the collection’s themes, marked by boundless passion, vitality, and a cosmopolitan openness. We are delighted to announce our participation in the upcoming Photo Brussels Festival. During the event, the collection is scheduling private tour visits, with a special focus on the photographic works included in the current show.

FR Galila’s P.O.C est une collection d’art privée située dans la commune de Forest à Bruxelles, à deux pas du Centre d’art contemporain Wiels et de la Fondation A. Stiching. La collection, souvent surprenante, se déploie comme un «cabinet de curiosités» contemporain avec ses 600 œuvres d’art assemblées dans un agencement organique et intuitif. L’exposition actuelle et évolutive -Overdose- reprend les thèmes de la collection, marqués par une passion sans limite, une vitalité et une ouverture cosmopolite. Au cours du festival, la collection organise des visites privées, avec un accent particulier sur les œuvres photographiques incluses dans l’exposition actuelle.

NL Galila's POC is een privé kunstcollectie gelegen in de gemeente Forest in Brussel, op een steenworp afstand van het Wiels Contemporary Art Center en Fondation A. Stiching. De vaak verrassende collectie ontvouwt zich als een hedendaags 'kabinet der curiositeiten' met 600 kunstwerken samengebracht in een organische en intuïtieve opstelling. De huidige en evoluerende tentoonstelling - 'Overdose' - geeft een staalkaart van de thema's in de collectie, gekenmerkt door grenzeloze passie, vitaliteit en een kosmopolitische openheid. We zijn verheugd om onze deelname aan het aankomende Photo Brussels Festival aan te kondigen. Tijdens het evenement organiseert de collectie privé rondleidingen, met speciale aandacht voor de fotografische werken die deel uitmaken van de huidige tentoonstelling.

Un peu plus qu’une image

EN Is this a counterculture in the age of internet images? For a generation now, seemingly eclectic photographic creations have been challenging the new image standards. Many prefer to use rudimentary equipment or even go without a camera, exploring the heritage of photographic processes, hybridizing images and objects, amplifying photography into installations, or combining photography with textile craftsmanship. Activism and poetry blend together to propose worlds where materiality, gestures, and reconciliation with nature are at the forefront. It is within the body of photography that artists seek to reinterpret the world and invent new ones, through utopias where the imagination allows us to move beyond the worship of images.

FR Est-ce une contre-culture à l’heure de l’image sur Internet ? Depuis une génération, des créations photographiques en apparence éclectiques prennent le contre-pied des nouveaux standards de l’image. Beaucoup préfèrent photographier avec du matériel rudimentaire ou même se passer d’appareil, explorent le patrimoine des procédés, hybrident l’image et les objets, amplifient la photographie en installations ou bien encore associent photographie et artisanat textile. Activisme et poésie se mêlent pour proposer des mondes où il est question de matérialité, de gestes, de réconciliation avec la nature: cest dans le corps de la photographie que les artistes cherchent à relire le monde et en inventer de nouveaux, par des utopies où l’imaginaire permet de dépasser le culte des images.

NL Is dit een tegencultuur in het tijdperk van internetbeelden? Al een generatie lang dagen schijnbaar eclectische fotografische creaties de nieuwe beeldstandaarden uit. Velen geven de voorkeur aan het gebruik van rudimentaire apparatuur of zelfs zonder camera, waarbij ze het erfgoed van fotografische processen verkennen, beelden en objecten hybridiseren, fotografie versterken in installaties of fotografie combineren met textiele kunstnijverheid. Activisme en poëzie vermengen zich tot werelden waarin materialiteit, gebaren en verzoening met de natuur op de voorgrond staan. Het is binnen het lichaam van de fotografie dat kunstenaars proberen de wereld te herinterpreteren en nieuwe werelden uit te vinden, door middel van utopieën waarin de verbeelding ons in staat stelt om verder te gaan dan het aanbidden van beelden.

NL Galerie Gomis heeft een duidelijke missie: de stemmen van een nieuwe golf fotografen versterken, vooral die uit de Afrikaanse diaspora en het mondiale zuiden.
